"Rhodes to Perdition" is the ninth episode of season 5 on the show, ''Gossip Girl''. The episode was directed by Andrew McCarthy and written by Natalie Krinsky. It was aired on November 28, 2011 on the CW. Similar to previous names in the TV series, the title of the episode references a work on literature. The title reference is from the 2002 film, Road to Perdition. __FORCETOC__ ==Character Summary== Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively): Serena gets closer to Max but Charlie warns her that he came to New York for an ex-girlfriend and that they may be moving too fast. After Serena finds out that Charlie is Max's ex-girlfriend, she expresses her anger at Charlie. After explanation, Serena asks Max to leave their penthouse. Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford): Nate is coming along as editor-in-chief of ''The Spectator.'' He changes the newspaper from gossip to truth-based reporting. This change becomes difficult when his cousin, Tripp van der Bilt, is caught in an affair scheme to get him more votes for an office he is running for. Nate continues to not let his personal life come in to the newspaper by publishing a story saying that ''The Spectator ''was not going to be involved in scams. Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester): Blair's wedding day is coming closer and closer. But, while Louis out of town, Blair is free to express her conflicted feelings for Chuck. She sets out to figure out how Chuck changed in order to change Louis but deeper topics come up. She tells Chuck she feels she brings out the darkness in the men she loves. When Chuck says he had an engagement ring for her, she can't hide the old feelings when they come up. Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick): Chuck shows his dark side to Blair again but with a feeling of apprehensiveness. He tells her he was going to propose but returned the ring which signified to him that he can never openly love Blair again. Ivy Dickens (Kaylee DeFer):Charlie is caught in a bed of lies again when Max starts to see Serena. After Serena tells them she knows of their past, Charlie's lying becomes thicker. She tells her family that Max was blackmailing her with a sex tape and that is why she needed money from CeCe when, in reality, Carol was the one receiving the money. At the end of the episode, Charlie tells Max that she is untouchable now because she is a Rhodes girl. Daniel Humphrey (Penn Badgely): Dan is continuing to struggle with his book. He looks online to talk to people who don't like his book.
